Installation type

At the time, the Roman Theater was under excavation and therefore not open to the public. The fence surrounding the area was present for 4 consecutive years and was then replaced with yet another “fence". By using only German police tape we created a saying for a specific location in Mainz. ​ 

We wanted to make a large provocative text, an idea that would hopefully strike a chord with the zeitgeist. Our original plan was to make a saying for inside the theater, but our request was rejected. That is why the next step was to find a saying for the fence surrounding the area.

​The typeface is a modular construction based on the fence measurements. We wanted the work to be read from the train station and the walk way { Viewers can walk around the entire construction site without stepping foot in the old Roman Theater.

This project was created in the summer of 2016 with Nadine Rabus under the supervision of Prof. Arndt at Hochschule Mainz.
